I've been making gift tags from old cards also, for as long as I can remember. Whatever I can't use, I put in my recycle bin. We all get "free cards" in the mail, too, from various charitable organizations. Sometimes I get so many that I can't or don't want to use them. I bundle them up and bring them to a local nursing home. The residents love using them for arts and craft projects, and also to "send" to fellow residents or their relatives and friends. Preschools could also use them for the same purposes. You can also use the cut outs from old cards to decorate gift boxes or gift bags. It's fun and challenging to figure out ways to use things you don't want or need, and do your share to "save the planet" at the same time.
