Awesome advice. I spent the last six years in a job where I had to be in my seat at 7 and couldn’t leave until 6. It didn’t matter whether I actually had that much work to do, I was tied to my desk, so my Friday or Bust mindset was in full effect. That’s why I quit to do my own thing.

Now I spend my time doing whatever I want, whenever I want, and I’m only accountable to myself. It was tough to get used to at first, but it’s so much better.

You should take a look at Walletpop’s recent article about Results-only Work Environments. That’s how we should all be…

    Hi Tim,

You are such an inspiration. I can’t wait for the day when I can totally do my own thing too. Thanks for the reading suggestion too!

  3. You’re exactly right Lisa! I was laid off from my job almost 2 months ago, so in reality, every day is “Friday”. But the Friday phenomenon is so ingrained from years of work, that I still feel differently on Friday. And I also find myself saving up many tasks for the week for Thursday and Friday, so I feel pressured to accomplish them this week.

This will be a shift for me, but I’m going to make an effort to change my mindset!

    Hi Diane,
I am so glad to hear from you. So sorry to hear about your job lay off … and so interesting to hear how the Friday mindset is still ingrained. I try so very, very hard to always practice what I preach, but tonight I’m left feeling over-whelmed and counting the minutes till Friday. You must always be in the mindset and my husband and I just talked tonight about happiest moments, how to simplify life more and appreciating the life we have. It must be a thought that is always present. You’ve touched me with your comment tonight and I wish you the world of happiness and best of luck breaking out of the Friday or bust mindset.

    Live each day!!!

    Lisa
